It's time to break out the Champagne and celebrate the New Year with friends and family. If you're thinking about throwing a New Year's party, here is one treat you don't want to miss: sparkling Champagne cupcakes.

Simply by substituting the water for Champagne, you can turn ordinary cupcakes into a sparkling delight. You can also use bubbly to make truffles, cheesecake, marshmallows, frosting, macaroons and much more. So many amazing options, you're only limited by your imagination.

For the sparkling Champagne cupcakes, start by picking up your favorite white cake mix (this recipe also works well with gluten-free flours). Then, pick up your favorite Champagne, or try a new flavor every time you make these cupcakes. The flavor bakes amazingly and will give a different taste with each brand—just keep trying until you find one you can't live without.

For the frosting, you can make a champagne frosting if you'd like (recipe below) or use a simple buttercream or store bought.

Ingredients

Cupcakes:

  • 1 box white cake mix (also ingredients required on box)
  • Substitute Champagne in place of water

Frosting:

  • 8 ounces unsalted butter
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 4-6 tablespoons Champagne
  • Dash of salt

Directions

Make cupcakes according to directions substituting Champagne for the water. Let cool and start on the frosting. Beat butter until soft then add other ingredients. Mix until soft and fluffy, if needing more moisture, add more Champagne by the tablespoon.

These cupcakes bake easily and will fill your house with the delicious smell of sweets and Champagne. To make them extra festive, be sure to pick up white and gold sprinkles and a few sparkly cupcake toppers; throw a little confetti on the table for an extra punch of excitement.

For a lighter frosting, you can use Cool Whip or other whipped toppings and even add a dash of champagne in to flavor it up. A delicious marshmallow frosting would work as well.

Your guests will love these surprising treats—making it a great way to celebrate the New Year!
